Susan thinks Greg should watch 1976's "Network" -- an American satirical film written by Paddy Chayefsky, directed by Sidney Lumet, and starring Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Peter Finch, and Robert Duvall. The film also features Wesley Addy, Ned Beatty, and Beatrice Straight.
They talk about the film's central relationship - that between Holden's Max Schumacher and Dunaway's Diana Christensen. They point out how the movie's only sex scene seems to have inspired a similar scene in another film. Greg and Susan also focus the smaller roles which were the most memorable: including Beatty's pivotal performance as a corporate heavy and Marlene Warfield and Arthur Burghardt's scene-stealing turns as radical activists. Greg wonders if the Oscar wins by Finch, Dunaway, and Straight were deserving when compared to other nominees in the same year. The two make their picks for the three funniest scenes in the film.
Susan and Greg also discuss the elements of Todd Phillip's "Joker" that appear to be inspired by "Network."
